IUWBB Maya Malakusky Earns Big Ten Freshman of the Week Award

Maya Makalusky, a freshman forward for Indiana, has been named Big Ten Freshman of the Week for the second time this season after averaging 17.0 points and 4.5 rebounds in two wins. She scored 19 points against Rutgers and contributed significantly in a regular-season finale against Penn State. Indiana will play Nebraska in the Big Ten Tournament.

ROSEMONT, Ill.  – Freshman forward Maya Makalusky has been named the Big Ten Freshman of the Week, announced by the league office on Monday.

The Fishers, Ind. native earns her second Big Ten Freshman of the Week honors this season after averaging 17.0 points, 4.5 rebound and shooting 47.4 percent from the floor in a pair of wins for Indiana last week.  She is the sixth player in school history to earn at least two Big Ten Freshman of the Week honors in her rookie season. 

Makalusky scored 19 points in a road win at Rutgers, connecting on four 3-pointers to go along with four rebounds, an assist and steal. She was one of four Hoosiers in double figures in the regular season finale against Penn State where she had 15 points and five rebounds. For the week, Makalusky finished 9-for-10 at the free throw line. 

13-seed Indiana will open play at the Big Ten Tournament on Wednesday, March 4 at 3:30 p.m. ET against 12-seed Nebraska at Gainbridge Fieldhouse in Indianapolis.
