The Indiana Hoosiers (3-6) finally got the pitching performance they were waiting for against a quality team on a Friday night, but it was the bats who did not produce in a 4-1 loss at Western Kentucky.
The Hoosiers starting pitcher Tony Nuebeck threw a season-high 71 pitches in 5.1 innings allowing just one earned run and four hits. He struck out five batters and did not walk a batter. He allowed his lone run on an RBI double in the fourth inning.
At the plate the Hoosiers managed to out hit the Hilltoppers, but stranded seven runners and struck out 10 times. Indiana had their two best rallies snuffed out by double plays.
Freshman second baseman Landen Fry hit a hard line drive at the second baseman who picked off sophomore first baseman Jake Hanley at second base for a double play. Then sophomore outfielder Hogan Denny grounded into a double play two innings later with two runners on and no outs.
The Hoosiers would score their lone run in the ninth inning on a Cooper Malamazian RBI double, but it was 4-0 at that time and true freshman Owen ten Oever grounded out to end the game as the tying run.
