Quarterback Tyler Cherry Back on IU’s Roster Ahead of Spring Football

Indiana Football has re-added quarterback Tyler Cherry to its roster for the 2026 spring season after he was removed prior to 2025. Cherry, a former four-star recruit, missed the previous season due to a knee injury and served as a student assistant coach. He is aiming for a backup quarterback role in 2026.

A day after updating the roster for the 2026 spring season, Indiana Football added a name that has been in question since after the season ended. Former four-star quarterback Tyler Cherry is back on IU’s roster after being removed before the 2025 season.

Cherry suffered a significant knee injury preparing for the Hoosiers 2024 College Football Playoff game against Notre Dame. He spent the 2025 season as a student assistant coach. He is listed as a redshirt freshman.

The former Center Grove stand out signed with IU as part of Curt Cignetti’s first high school signing class. Cherry was 23-4 record in two seasons as the starting quarterback at Center Grove. He accounted for 64 career touchdowns (56 passing, 8 rushing) and was tabbed Indiana Football Coaches Association Mr. Football positional winner as a senior after completing 71 percent of his passes for 3,156 yards and 34 touchdown passes. He also holds the career records for yards passing (5,461), passing touchdowns (56), completions (364) and completion percentage (68.5). 

Cherry played in one game as a true freshman in 2024 and will be looking to get back in the mix for the backup quarterback role in 2026 along with Grant Wilson.
