Indiana QB Coach Chandler Whitmer Leaving for Tampa Bay Buccaneers

Indiana Hoosiers quarterbacks coach Chandler Whitmer is departing for the NFL to join the Tampa Bay Buccaneers as their quarterbacks coach. During his season at Indiana, he guided quarterback Fernando Mendoza to a Heisman Trophy and helped the Hoosiers secure a national championship. This marks another coaching change for the team.

A source confirmed to Hoosier Huddle what NFL Network’s Tom Pelissero first reported, Indiana’s quarterback coach and co-offensive coordinator Chandler Whitmer is heading back to the NFL. In Whitmer’s lone season in Bloomington he helped lead Fernando Mendoza to a Heisman Trophy and the Hoosiers to a national championship.

Whitmer has four years of NFL experience with the Los Angeles Chargers and the Atlanta Falcons. He will be heading to Tampa Bay this time around to be the Buccaneers quarterbacks coach.

This is the second time in two years that Curt Cignetti will be looking for a new quarterbacks coach at IU. Tino Sunseri left to become the offensive coordinator at UCLA prior to the 2025 season. That job lasted less than a season.
