Hjelle committed to former Indiana head coach and then Tulsa head coach Kevin Wilson. Prior to Tulsa, Hjelle played two seasons at Iowa Western Community College where his team won back-to-back JUCO national championships. It is unclear whether or not Hjelle has one or two years of eligibility left, but he is listed as a redshirt junior.

According to Pro Football Focus Hjelle graded out at 79.3 and is better against the run than rushing the passer. He is listed at 6’3″ and 300 pounds.

The Hoosiers have to replace Dominique Ratcliff, Hosea Wheeler and possibly Tyrique Tucker (if he goes pro) up front at the tackle position.
