Indiana Football Lands Turbo Richard, former Boston College Running Back

Hanovii 'Turbo' Richard, a former Boston College running back, has committed to the Indiana Hoosiers after entering the transfer portal. In 2025, he excelled as the Eagles' leading rusher, showcasing speed and pass-catching abilities. His arrival comes as the Hoosiers seek to replace departing players and enhance their offensive strategy.

On Sunday the Hoosiers received a commitment from Hanovii ‘Turbo’ Richard. Charlotte, NC product entered the transfer portal on December 29th, after spending the previous two seasons with Boston College. Coming out of high school, Richard was ranked as the 111th best running back in his class and the 24th overall prospect in South Carolina according to 247 Sports. As a transfer, he is ranked as the 9th best running back in the portal.

In 2025, Richard carried the ball 145 times and tallied 749 yards to go alongside nine rushing touchdowns as the Eagles’ leading rusher. The sophomore also added 30 receptions for 213 yards this year, with another two touchdowns. Richard saw his role increase during his sophomore season, and became the Eagles’ bell cow back.

Richard brings a pass-catching, and speed element that is different than former running back recruits under Curt Cignetti. He adds an explosiveness, and yards-after-catch ability that is a change of pace from the Hoosiers typical offensive attack. With that being said, Richard is no slouch running between the tackles. The Charlotte native is cerebral, and wastes little movement in his rushing technique.

Following this season, the Hoosiers will be losing both Kaelon Black and Roman Hemby as they exhaust their remaining collegiate eligibility. The offense is looking to bring back Lee Beebe Jr, who could return from a season-ending injury in 2025. Khobie Martin, the Fishers, IN product is also likely to see an increased role in 2026 Hoosier offense. For Richard, in many ways he is comparable to former Indiana running back, Jaylin Lucas. The two shared similar qualities with their speed, maneuverability, and ability as a receiver out of the back field. With that being said, Richard will have ample opportunity in the pass game, while still getting his chance to establish himself as a threat between the tackles.

Following the departure of the Hoosiers’ two leading rushers, Richard should be given an opportunity to make an immediate impact in 2026. His speed and explosiveness should benefit the run, pass, and potentially even the return game.
