This is Indiana linebacker Rolijah Hardy’s recruiting profile on 247Sports.com. 0 stars, no picture, one school listed, and barely any additional information beyond that. It is fair to say that Hardy was lightly recruited, to say the least. However, Hardy did not let this define him and ended up making the most of every opportunity given to him.

It started with hard work in the film room, which Hardy touched on recently in his Rose Bowl press conference. He grew with help from fellow linebacker Aiden Fisher, commenting, “Yeah, since day one of me coming here, he’s always been a great leader. You learn a lot from a guy like Fisher. He knows the game, he knows the system. So it’s kind of like you’re in there with Coach Haines at times because he’s been around the program a long time.”
Beyond the film room, Hardy had to wrap his head around Bryant Haines’ complicated defensive schemes. When asked about those schemes, Hardy said, “Yeah, you’ve got to be smart to play for him. It all looks really hard, but at the end of the day it’s about taking the time to actually learn the ins and outs of the system. It’s a lot of day-one install that builds up from there. For us, it’s about knowing everybody’s job and playing off each other.”
Hardy is a great example of someone who, as he said, took the time to learn the ins and outs of the system. For a 0-star recruit, you need to show the coaching staff commitment, fight, and a willingness to do and learn anything, and that is exactly what Hardy has displayed.
His hard work paid off almost instantly in his IU career, as his first spark as a Hoosier came in just his second career game as a true freshman. Against Western Illinois in the 2024 season, Hardy had a pick six and a strip sack, easily putting his stamp on the game in the process. From there, onlookers could see there was just something different about Rolijah Hardy in the way he played. Soon enough, Hardy’s career would turn from just having four starts in 2024 to starting every game thus far in 2025 and being an integral piece to this Indiana defense.
Oh, and all this culminating in Hardy starting on arguably the biggest stage in College Football in the Rose Bowl in just three days time. He has earned every snap and every rep that comes his way.
The Hoosiers would not be 13-0 without Rolijah Hardy’s stellar play this season and they will certainly need him to beat Alabama in the Rose Bowl as well. For some context on just how good Hardy’s been, Pro Football Focus (PFF) has him as the 10th best linebacker in the country when it comes to run defense, along with many other fantastic grades to his credit.
