Indiana Hoosiers head coach Curt Cignetti announced on Wednesday afternoon that defensive lineman Stephen Daley was injured at some point after the game on Saturday night during the team’s celebration of their Big Ten Championship.
“I can confirm that he did sustain an injury. Serious injury that will probably not make him available for the remainder of the season.” Cignetti said.
Daley has been Indiana’s starter at defensive end for the final six games after Kellen Wyatt was lost for the season. In 13 games this season Daley led the Hoosiers with 19 tackles for loss and 5.5 sacks. 13.5 of his tackles for loss game in the second half of the season.
Cignetti said that he learned of the injury some time after the game Saturday night (about an hour) and that when he held his press conference on Sunday they were still awaiting the results of imaging tests. Cignetti also explained that is why he said that no player was injured in the game on Saturday.
The Hoosiers do not play again until January 1st in the Rose Bowl against the winner of the Alabama/Oklahoma game on December 19th.
We will take a deeper dive into a potential replacement later.
