It’s a custom of the college football season for head coaches across the nation to meet with the media towards the beginning of the week and discuss the prior week’s matchup and preview their upcoming test. Fans are often privy to the quotes coming out of their own team’s HQ, but what about their upcoming opponents’?

Let’s take a look at some of the quotes that Purdue’s head coach Barry Odom had to say that referenced Indiana specifically in his Monday press conference.

Q: Opening statement.

“When you go back into the history of what this game means to the people of Purdue and this great university… The responsibility has been reminded to me throughout my time here in the last 10 months about how important this game is. It’s something we’ve spent time on this week, understanding the importance of playing for something bigger than ourselves.”

Q: Is there any value in having a bye this late in the year?

“It was valuable for us, certainly. And I’d bet if you’d ask Cignetti, I’d bet it was really valuable for them. So, it’s all what you make of it. They provide the schedule early in the year and then you adjust and try to fit what’s best for that current team. I thought it was really good for us.”

Q: Can Purdue build a program that is a playoff contender like Indiana has done?

“Yeah, I mean ultimately. I don’t want to speak – I know what they’ve done win/loss record – but I don’t know any details other than that. I know Cignetti has done a heck of a job. So, absolutely. You look at the opportunities that exist in college football today, in recruiting, expanded playoffs, and now retention and revenue share… Purdue has got everything that is needed to have a really, really successful football program.”
