Candy Stripe Scoop – Week Two

What: Indiana Hoosiers vs. Milwaukee Panthers

Opponent Glance: The Milwaukee Panthers are in the Horizon League and have a solid program that usually finishes near the top 200 in national metrics (Torvik, KenPom). The Panthers have played three games in the 2025-2026 season and are sitting at 2-1 after an impressive 92-72 victory over Little Rock on Monday night.

The other win was over Hampton and they lost by ten points against the Wofford Terriers (86-76). Now in his fourth season as the head coach, Bart Lundy has led Milwaukee to three straight 20+ win seasons. Lundy operates with the motto “Tilt the Floor” and the 2024-2025 Panthers led the NCAA in fastbreak points at 18.4 per contest plus they were second in the country in rebounding margin at +9.3 per game.

Prior to becoming the head coach at Milwaukee, Lundy was the head coach at Queens University in Charlotte. It’s early in the campaign but Milwaukee has moved to 176 (right below Indiana State) in Evan Miya’s Team Rankings, 184 on Bart Torvik and 186 on KenPom (ahead of Indiana State by one). For reference on what quality teams from the Horizon League are capable of, see last weekend’s Purdue game where Oakland was tied with the Boilermakers at halftime before losing by ten in West Lafayette.

Milwaukee has a positive offensive rating thus far and they are led by 6’4” guard Seth Hubbard. The senior transfer from Toledo is averaging nearly 20 points per game and he’s shooting 8-15 from three and 53.8% from the field. Amar Augillard (6’5” guard from Fresno State) and Stevie Elam (6’3” freshman) join him in double-figures. They are aggressive on defense and are averaging 8.3 steals per game so it’s another pressure defense for IU to have to handle.

The Panthers start a frontcourt of 6’8” and 6’10” and have fairly good size in the backcourt but they do have some deficiencies to keep an eye on. The primary one for IU to take advantage of is they have given up an average of 7.3 made three-pointers per game with an average of 36.7% surrendered and they are not beating opponents up on the glass as they did last season (-3 per game).

Why it Matters: For the first time in a long time, there is positivity and momentum surrounding the Indiana University basketball program. In the first week of the season, IU showcased a fun style of play and the first two games of the Darian DeVries era were major successes as the Hoosiers blasted Alabama A&M and comfortably dispatched the Marquette Golden Eagles in Chicago.

IU has climbed in the metrics thanks to the positive performances and this week represents a pair of opportunities to continue the momentum and begin to stack positive outings. There is a chance that Nick Dorn sees his first action of the season and Indiana could definitely do with developing another rotation piece or two during the remainder of November before embarking on a very difficult stretch of the campaign in December.

What: Indiana Hoosiers vs. Incarnate Word Cardinals

Where: Assembly Hall in Bloomington, IN

When: Sunday, November 16 at 5:30pm

How to Watch: BTN

Opponent Glance: Incarnate Word is in the Southland Conference and they are 2-1 after dispatching Southern Christian University on Tuesday night. The other win came against Jarvis Christian while the loss was a 98-64 blowout defeat to Colorado State in Fort Collins.

Through the first two games of the season, Incarnate Word was averaging 11.5 three-pointers per game and they are not afraid to let it fly. The Cardinals are shooting 32 triples per contest and will test Indiana’s perimeter defense. Harrison Reede and Davion Bailey are both averaging 19 points per game or better while Tahj Staveskie and Jordan Pyke are both in double-figures.

Fans of Indiana high school basketball might remember Bailey, he played at Pike High School and is now at Incarnate Word after playing at Ball State as a junior. Bailey led the Southland last season with 600 total points and he made 126 three-pointers on the season (third-most in the NCAA). Head coach Shae Heirman is in his third season at Incarnate Word and he’s just 37 years old. He previously worked at DePaul and Central Michigan and was previously the head coach at La Lumiere School in LaPorte, Indiana.
