The Indiana Hoosiers continue their quest for the coveted 6th banner to hang on the historic walls of Assembly Hall. To help instill that culture and maybe even get to that goal, Head Coach Darian DeVries brought in a player who accomplished that exact goal just last year in Sam Alexis. Alexis played one season at the University of Florida as a role player and eventually went on to win the 2025 Men’s Basketball National Championship.

With Florida, Alexis averaged about 11 minutes per game, posting strong all around numbers – particularly on the rebounding side of things – against fierce competition. During March Madness, Alexis logged one minute during the Gators’ run and, while certainly ecstatic and proud to win the National Championship, Alexis possibly entered the portal looking for an opportunity to play more minutes. At Indiana, he will have that opportunity.

Alexis is a big bodied forward who knows how to use his body in initiating contact and muscling his way to the hoop. He has touch around the rim and has shown promise in shooting from three, though that is not necessarily his game. Alexis will bring toughness, muscle, and a strong rebounding presence to this Hoosiers squad, which is of absolute necessity to push forward the type of culture Head Coach Darian DeVries wants to implement. Alexis will look to make the most of his opportunity in Bloomington with the goal of repeating as a National Champion once again.

The Hoosiers are set to open the regular season at Assembly Hall on November 5th against Alabama A&M. Stay locked in with Hoosiers Huddle for all things Indiana Basketball, Indiana Football, and all other Indiana sports – all the time.
