The Indiana Men’s Basketball season unofficially gets underway in 30 days when the Hoosiers take on Alabama A&M in the regular season opener on November 5th. Just like our football coverage, we are doing a countdown to tipoff. Today we take a look at freshman international player Andrej Acimovic.

Name: Andrej Acimovic
Height/Weight: 6’10”/240
Hometown/High School: Bijelina, Bosnia/ BC Igokea
Class: Freshman
Position: Center

Andrej Acimovic comes to IU from Bijelina, Bosnia. He did not arrive in time to play in the Hoosiers’ exhibition games in Puerto Rico, but comes with professional experience overseas. Acimovic averaged 17.5 points and 7.5 rebounds per game in the U19 ABA League, the top league in the Bosnia and Herzegovina, Croatia, Montenegro, North Macedonia, Serbia, and Slovenia region. He is a 39-percent shooter from three-point range, which fits into head coach Darian DeVries offensive philosophy. Defensively he can block some shots, but is not a traditional rim protector.
In IU’s press release when they signed Acimovic head coach Darian DeVries said, “Andrej is a talented big man that we are excited to get in our program and develop,” DeVries said. “He has good size and is able to score the basketball in different ways. He is strong on the glass and has good defensive instincts and timing when blocking shots.”

Acimovic is a very raw talent and needs time to develop. However, he could be pressed into action if the Hoosiers need more depth in the front court or someone gets into foul trouble.
The Hoosiers are set to open the regular season at Assembly Hall on November 5th against Alabama A&M.
