With strength of schedule and other metrics playing a critical role in the sport, it is worth looking at how IU’s opponents fared in week one. Each week we will recap all of IU’s opponents games and give an Overall opponent record of both remaining games and previous opponents.

Overall Opponent Record Remaining Schedule: 9-2

Kennesaw State (0-1): Last Week Loss at Wake Forest 10-9

The Owls are IU’s next opponent and nearly pulled off the upset against Wake Forest in week one. They lost 10-9 in a game where the Owls missed an extra point and a field goal.

Indiana State (1-0): Last Week Win vs. McKendree (41-24)

The Sycamores were actually receiving votes in the FCS preseason polls and were still in that category after an opening week win. Indiana State will likely come to Bloomington at 2-0.

No. 11 Illinois (1-0): Last Week Win vs Western Illinois 52-3

The Illini are ranked 11th in the nation and easily dispatched of Western Illinois. This week they head to Duke to face a solid Blue Devil team.

Iowa (1–0): Last Week Win vs Albany 34-7

Iowa is still in the receiving votes category in the national polls. Their win over Albany was not as easy as expected and the offense could be the issue that holds the Hawkeyes back yet again. This week’s Cy-Hawk game will show a lot about this Iowa team.

No. 6 Oregon (1-0): Last Week Win vs. Montana State 59-13

There were plenty of questions facing the Ducks coming into 2025, but Oregon looks to be a Big Ten title contender again as they easily handled Montana State. Last year Oregon had trouble with Idaho. Oklahoma State comes to Eugene next week and will shed a little more light on the Ducks.

Michigan State (1-0): Last Week Win vs Western Michigan 23-6

Through one half Michigan State looked much improved. However , WMU outscored the Spartans 6-2 in the second half turning a laugher into something else. Boston College comes to Spartan Stadium next week.

UCLA (0-1): Last Week Loss vs Utah 43-10

All of the good offseason vibes are gone for UCLA as their prized quarterback transfer looked bad and the defense couldn’t stop the Utes. Could UCLA start 0-2? It’s possible with a trip to UNLV next week.

Maryland (1-0): Last Week Win vs. FAU 39-7

Maryland looked better than I expected and after a slow start, put it to FAU. The Terps usually play well early in the season, but a visit from Northern Illinois makes people nervous.

No. 2 Penn State (1-0): Last Week Win vs. Nevada 46-11

Penn State did what the team who wants to win a national title does. They blew out a far inferior team at home. Next week should be more of the same with FIU coming to town.

Wisconsin (1-0): Last Week Win vs. Miami (OH) 17-0

Wisconsin shut out an opponent at home in week one, but did not inspire a ton of confidence with their offense. Trouble is brewing in Madtown, but all should be quiet for now. Unless they look sloppy against MTSU.

Purdue (1-0): Last Week Win vs. Ball State 31-0

Purdue shut out the Cardinals and ended an 11-game losing streak. They should get their second win of the year as Southern Illinois is the next opponent.
