The Hoosier Huddle countdown to kickoff is on its final day! For the 100 days leading up to kickoff, we at Hoosier Huddle have featured every player from the 2025 roster in anticipation of Indiana’s first game of the season against Old Dominion. Today, we will highlight a key piece to the Indiana running back room, Maryland transfer Roman Hemby.
Curt Cignetti has always valued production over potential in his transfer portal philosophy, and it’s hard to find a guy that demonstrates this more than Maryland transfer Roman Hemby.
Hemby has played in 41 games with 38 starts in the Big Ten over his four seasons and the two-time honorable mention Big Ten tailback has over 3,300 all-purpose yards in his career. He has handled over 130 carries in each of his last three seasons with the Terrapins but has also shown his ability to be a receiving threat out of the backfield, ironically logging his first career game with a rushing and a receiving touchdown last season in Memorial Stadium against the Hoosiers. He caught a pass in all 12 of Maryland’s games last season.

This season, along with returning running back Kaelon Black and fellow transfer Lee Beebe Jr (UAB), Hemby will be competing for and possibly winning the starting tailback role. He was one of Indiana’s biggest pickups out of the transfer portal and is sure to be a welcome sight alongside quarterback Fernando Mendoza in the offensive backfield.
The Hoosier Huddle Countdown to Kickoff continues each and every day so be sure to check back often for the latest profile piece!
