Game Recap:

Your 11th ranked Indiana Hoosiers Men’s Soccer Program finished an incredible comeback victory on Sunday, beating the University of San Francisco Dons 3-2. After initially falling down 2-0 (for the second straight game), the Hoosiers scored three unanswered goals to seal the win at Bill Armstrong Stadium. The Hoosiers remain undefeated thus far in the 2025 regular season with a record of 1 win, 1 draw, and 0 losses. They are unbeaten in 9 consecutive home matches.

The match began early on with San Francisco bringing significant pressure on the attack. This aggressiveness resulted in a goal for the Dons about 8 minutes in on a cross falling inside the box. I am sure this is one Coach Yeagley would like to have back, as there’s a chance this ball could have been cleared away to begin with.

The pressure continued until the Dons eventually earned a penalty kick from a foul inside the penalty area. The PK was cleanly taken about 19 minutes into the match and the score became 2-0.

This is where the Big Ten Favorites began to switch things up. We spoke previously in our Clemson recap that this Hoosiers team fights harder than any team in the country. Even down 2-0 against Clemson, this team rallied and ended up tying the game. This theme arose again against San Francisco as momentum shifted towards the Cream and Crimson. The Hoosiers displayed immense attacking pressure – no doubt a mentality shift driven by Coach Yeagley – and capitalized as Jacopo Fedrizzi finished off an Oduro assist from outside the box, driven into the bottom right corner. The Hoosiers made it 2-1 about 39 minutes in.

The 2nd half begins and not even 2 minutes in, Oduro creates another goal for Jacopo Fedrizzi – his second of the game and third on the season. This time, slightly inside of the box and the Hoosiers tie it up 2-2. Fedrizzi and Oduro have displayed very strong chemistry on the attack and have become a force for opposing defenses to reckon with.

The Hoosiers continued to command the game and fully completed the comeback against the Dons, registering a 3rd goal in the 69th minute of the match as Easton Bogard tucked in a pass from Nolan Kinsella. Bogard seemingly directed the entire play, holding up the ball at the top of the box and sending Kinsella down on the wing while he snuck into a dangerous position. Fantastic job by Bogard, Kinsella, and the Hoosiers on this goal.

The match ends after 90 minutes and the Hoosiers have won 3-2.

Hoosiers Player of the Match:

Jacopo Fedrizzi. This one was an easy pick. Fedrizzi scored two beautiful goals and put his name on the map as one of the most exciting and talented players in the country. Besides his brace on Sunday, Fedrizzi drove play from start to finish. He had some strong set pieces, crosses, and link up play which propelled the Hoosiers to complete the comeback. The Italian who grew up playing in (current Serie A team) Udinese’s youth academy has come to Bloomington and taken the campus by storm.

Key Takeaway:

This was mentioned at length above so I won’t labor on the point, but these Hoosiers have fight, grit, and tenacity. They play with a never say die attitude and have now overcome 2 goal deficits in consecutive games to start the season. Now, the ideal situation would be to not put yourself in that position to begin with – the Hoosiers still had some sloppy and disjointed plays like against Clemson – but there were improvements this time around. The Hoosiers looked cleaner, more like a unit, and their talent shined. An unsung hero from Sunday’s game who deserves credit is Collins Oduro, who tallied two assists and created dangerous attacks all game long.

The Hoosiers next match is Thursday, August 28 against Green Bay in Bloomington at Bill Armstrong Stadium. Stay tuned with Hoosier Huddle for IU Soccer content all season long.
