The 2025 Hoosier Huddle Countdown to Kickoff is barreling forward, and with less than two weeks until Indiana takes the field against Old Dominion, the excitement in Bloomington is electric. As part of our 100-day tradition of highlighting every player on the roster, today we shine the spotlight on one of the offense’s standout playmakers: wide receiver Elijah Sarratt.

It’s remarkable to think that a player of his caliber started his collegiate journey at an FCS program. Coming out of high school, Sarratt was unrated—a player with zero stars—despite being a dynamic multi-sport athlete. On the football field, he could do it all: line up at wide receiver, patrol the secondary as a defensive back, and electrify special teams as a kickoff and punt returner. His junior season saw him earn all-district and all-region honors for his performance as a receiver and returner. And if that wasn’t enough, Sarratt also starred on the varsity basketball court.

Truly, he’s a natural-born athlete—and a reminder that even elite talent can fly under the radar. He took that underdog chip on his shoulder to Saint Francis University in Pennsylvania, where he began carving a path that would eventually lead him to Big Ten stardom.

From the moment he stepped on the field, Elijah Sarratt made it clear he belonged. As a freshman at Saint Francis, he appeared in all 12 games, starting the final four, and played a key role in guiding the Red Flash to the FCS Playoffs. Sarratt finished the year with 42 receptions for 700 yards and 13 touchdowns, earning FCS Freshman All-American honors and a spot on the first-team All-Northeast Conference.

Remarkably, he caught at least one pass in every game and put together an eight-game touchdown streak—a feat that drew the attention of none other than Curt Cignetti, then head coach at James Madison.

After his standout freshman campaign, Sarratt made the jump to JMU, where he continued to dominate at the next level. Playing in all 13 games and starting 10, he hauled in 82 receptions for 1,191 yards and eight touchdowns, performances that earned him first-team All-Sun Belt honors. His production spoke volumes, showcasing a player who thrived under pressure and consistently found ways to make big plays.

Following the regular season, Sarratt once again followed the path of opportunity, transferring to Indiana to reunite with the JMU coaching staff and bring his electrifying skill set to the Big Ten.

By the time the 2024 season rolled around, Elijah Sarratt had already put in the work to compete with the best the Big Ten had to offer. In his first year at Indiana, he quickly became the talk of Bloomington, hauling in 53 receptions for 957 yards and eight touchdowns as a junior.

According to Pro Football Focus, he ranked in the top five among Big Ten receivers and 13th across the Power 4 conferences with an impressive 80.8 grade. Sarratt’s excellence didn’t go unnoticed—he earned third-team All-Big Ten honors from both coaches and media, and second-team recognition from the Associated Press. He had four games with 125+ receiving yards and routinely outmaneuvered defensive backs with his precise route running and sure-handed catches. Even more telling, 43 of his 53 receptions resulted in first downs or touchdowns, showing he makes every opportunity count.

Sarratt is more than just a top receiver—he’s the engine that keeps Indiana’s offense humming. His blend of elite playmaking ability and unshakable determination has established him as one of the nation’s premier wideouts. Looking ahead to the 2025-26 season, Sarratt has already been named to the Biletnikoff Award and Maxwell Award preseason watchlists, while PFF ranks him as the No. 2 wide receiver for the 2026 NFL Draft.

A player who makes every down count, Elijah Sarratt is ready to put the cherry on top of his collegiate career. He’s poised to electrify Hoosier fans with jaw-dropping catches, game-changing plays, and his trademark competitive fire.

“I got bigger goals this year. I’m trying to win a national championship, trying to set myself up for the best position. So, I’m just trying to go out there, put my work in and practice every single day and then handle business on Saturday,” Sarratt said during Big Ten Media Day on July 22nd.

But Sarratt’s focus isn’t on the awards—it’s on the performance that earns them. A player devoted to his craft, he brings confidence not only in himself but in his teammates. He sees untapped potential and growth in the guys lining up alongside him, and he’s fired up to lead this group to success on the field. For now, the wideout known affectionately as “Waffle House” is taking things one day at a time, counting down to his return to the field on August 30th—and fans can’t wait to see what he does next.
