Notes From IUBB First Public Practice

Mandatory Credit: Indiana University Athletics Today was the first practice held open to the media under the Hoosiers' first year basketball head coach Darian DeVries. The practice was high energy and fast paced and gave some insight on how the team is shaping up. They seemed to have developed some good chemistry these last few months and are trending up as the days go by. Below are some of the best quotes and some notes from the practice. Subscriber Content Post Practice Quotes "He (Lamar Wilkerson) don't miss too many. If you ain't got three hands, you probably can't guard him too good. He's just a dog. A lot of people say he's a great shooter but they don't understand how hard he really plays. Every practice, he's tired. Every workout, he's tired. He doesn't leave too much on the floor. He'll do whatever you. Whatever he got to do to win, he's going to do it for sure." -Tayton Conerway's thoughts about Lamar as a player. "I think the guys have been awesome to work with this summer. They've done a great job of just being receptive to coaching. They're all trying to do what we ask, and that's all we ask from them. They're not going to be perfect. Wer don't expect them to be perfect, but the progress they've made from June until now has been really good, I've been really happy with it. I think they're going to continue to do that, because I think they want to. And they got great togetherness, they got great energy and enthusiasm as you saw today. They really share the ball well. And then we have the ability to make shots from a lot of different places." -Coach Devries overall thoughts on the team so far. Practice Notes Practice was high energy, lots of cheers and claps from players, coaches, and student managers. Practiced a lot of shooting and passing drills. Second half of the hour long practice was majorly 3-on-3 and 5-on-5 They played very aggressive, especially Jasai Miles & Tayton Conerway on defense and Conor Enright on offense. Chemistry seems to be forming quicker than I originally would've thought for a team that is almost entirely transfers and freshmen. Lamar Wilkerson looks excellent. He was sinking every shot he took except for one miss. Conor Enright seems to be the teams hype man. Always talking and lifting other players up. Is a good leader figure for the team and is familiar with Devries' scheme. His speed and passing really shined today in the drills and scrimmages. Tucker DeVries has also filled a leadership role for the team. The timeline for when Jason Drake & Nick Dorn can return to practice from injury is unknown at this time. However, it doesn't seem to be long term and they'll hopefully be back soon. Players stated that they were surprised at Trent Sisley's athleticism as a freshman. When practicing schemes, seemed to be quite a few mistakes on defense, mostly with the second team.
