The Indiana Hoosiers are getting off to a very fast and very early start on the 2027 high school recruiting class as four-star quarterback Jameson Purcell committed on Monday morning.
Purcell is rated as a 247 Sports Composite four-star player. The lefty quarterback plays at Maine South in Park Ridge, Illinois. He chose IU over dozens of offers including ones from Georgia, Miami (FL), Florida State, Florida and Texas A&M.
247Sports‘ Hudson Standish wrote the following scouting report on his profile:
Athletic southpaw with streamlined delivery mechanics and a confident play style who wins with timing at the first two levels and by extending action outside the pocket. Verified hovering around 6-foot-1, 190 pounds following a prolific sophomore season where he led Maine South to the third round of the IHSA 8A playoffs as a first year starter. Above-average arm talent and will hit his marks when operating on schedule to the deeper third. Creative runner who can move the chains in the designed QB run game or create for himself when the play breaks down. Quick release and ability to adjust arm slot make for a lethal combination when working quick game. Turns 18 years old in September of 2025. Should be viewed as a dynamic signal-caller with fine-tuned mechanics and a solidly built frame entering his junior season.
As a sophomore in 2024 Purcell put up stellar numbers for Maine South. In 11 games he completed 197-of-280 passes (70.4%) for 2,572 yards with 30 touchdowns and just seven interceptions. He also ran for two touchdowns and 151 yards.
As his junior season closes in Purcell has been listed as one of the best quarterbacks in the Great Lakes Region by MaxPreps.com.
Purcell has an Indiana connection as both parents went to IU.
