Continuing on with our annual Countdown to Kickoff, we move forward to day 46, where we highlight linebacker Isaiah Jones.
Isaiah Jones arrived in Bloomington as a true freshman for the 2022 campaign. Per iuhoosiers.com, he played in two games and then was redshirted. Following that season, Jones appeared in two more games in 2023, then skyrocketed to play all 13 games in 2024. In this banner 2024 season, Jones was one of the best graded Special Teams players in the entire country per Pro Football Focus grades. He also made his first collegiate start (vs. Northwestern on 10/5).
Coming out of high school, Jones was a top 1000 recruit overall per 247 Sports Composite Rankings and was a top 30 prospect from the state of Ohio. He boasted a very strong offer list, receiving offers from schools like Akron, Cincinnati, Duke, Minnesota, and Wake Forest. Ultimately, however, he chose the Indiana Hoosiers. Former coaches Charlton Warren and Darren Hiller are credited with Jones’ recruitment to Bloomington.

Jones is an important piece to this 2025 Hoosiers squad. Per Hoosier Huddle contributor Jamie Jordan’s projected depth chart, Jones slots in as the #2 middle linebacker behind Aiden Fisher (side note, be on the lookout for Jamie’s defensive depth chart preview piece coming soon. He already did a fantastic job with the offense here).
Being the backup middle linebacker is serious business and holds an immense amount of responsibility. For Jones to not just survive a coaching change when Cignetti came on board, but to receive career high playing time and blossom into the role he has now says a LOT about how coaches and teammates view his impact. Look for him to continue being among the hardest workers on the team on the field and off the field, where, oh yeah, he is a back to back Academic All-Big Ten performer.
The Hoosier Huddle Countdown to Kickoff continues each and every day so be sure to check back often for the latest profile piece!
