2025 Countdown to Kickoff: #56 Chance Johnson

Height: 6’5”

Weight: 278 pounds

Hometown: Jeffersonville, Indiana (Jeffersonville)

Class/Position: Freshman / Offensive Line

Walk-ons are a big part of college football, although the new limits on roster sizes and revenue sharing will change the look of how teams utilize them across the country.

Chance Johnson is a walk-on joining IU from the state (Jeffersonville High School). He was rated as a two-star prospect by 247 sports and had offers from Illinois State and UT Martin before deciding to stay in-state and be part of the Hoosiers’ program. Johnson has a great frame already and had a very successful high school career.

From IUHoosiers.comOffensive lineman for head coach Joe Washington at Jeffersonville High School … Named first-team All-Hoosier Hills Conference as a senior.”

Johnson will hopefully develop into a practice squad player that can provide valuable reps all year long and maybe turn into a guy that can play limited game snaps on offense or special teams. Bob Bostad has had players like Johnson before come in as walk-ons and develop into key contributors – such as guard Drew Evans.

Time will tell what Johnson can turn into, but having players like him be part of the program is a a big factor to having success on Saturdays.
