The Indiana Hoosiers won a major recruiting battle today as Florida defensive lineman Cam McHaney chose the Hoosiers over Purdue and Vanderbilt.

McHaney is a three-star prospect according to 247Sports composite rankings and is a top 500 player nationally. He plays for national football power IMG Academy in Florida and is listed at 6’1″ and 315 pounds.

McHaney is projected as an interior defensive lineman and mainly has lined up as a three-technique defensive tackle.

247Sports’ Director of Scouting Andrew Ivins has the following scouting report on McHaney’s profile:

Quick-twitched ball of fire that can penetrate gaps and creative negative plays. Tips the scales right around 6-foot-1, 315 pounds and wears the mass well with a wide lower half. Naturally low center of gravity allows him to get up and underneath opponents while raw power helps him move blockers off the ball.

Might have some limitations with his range as he’s at his best charging forward, but understands how to cave run lanes once engaged. Owns one of the fastest verified 40-yard dash times for any interior defensive lineman in the class of 2026, which authenticates his explosive take-offs. Projects best as a 3-technique in an even front that can help tax protection. Might not be an every-down defender initially, but has multi-year starter upside and has drawn glowing reviews from the staff at IMG Academy.

McHaney began his high school career at Indiana Lutheran where he was a two-year starter before transferring to IMG Academy for his junior season.

In his freshman and sophomore seasons McHaney totaled 168 tackles, 13 tackles for loss and five sacks. His team won back-to-back Class 1A State Titles in 2022 and 2023.

As a junior at IMG he saw his role reduced, but was still productive. McHaney made 39 tackles with seven tackles for loss, two sacks and broke up two passes.

“The decision was very hard but I felt that IMG was gonna get me ready for the next level beyond what Lutheran could do.” McHaney told Hoosier Huddle.

McHaney said “I was looking for a school where I was taken care of on and off the field, for school where I would still enjoy and like even if I wasn’t playing football, and a place that can take care of my family financially.”

The Indiana coaching staff stood out to McHaney as he was impressed with their connection with each other and their ability to work as a whole staff.

McHaney enters his senior season at IMG Academy looking to improve his numbers by “working on my hands and to rush the quarter back better to get more sacks” he said.
