2024 Countdown to IUFB Kickoff: 78 Days (Cooper Jones)

Cooper Jones, a 6'5", 311-pound reserve offensive lineman from Valparaiso, Indiana, is aiming for playing time in 2024. Despite high expectations as a top prospect, he has struggled to make an impact, switching from defense to offense. With a new coaching staff, he hopes to prove himself in a rebuilt offensive line.

The expectations were high for Cooper Jones when he came out of high school as a top five player in the state of Indiana. However, that potential has yet to be tapped. He has played in 19 total games between 2022 and ‘23. He was brought in to be a playmaker along the defensive line and had just seven tackles before switching to the offensive side of the ball before the 2023 season.

For Jones, a change in the coaching staff may not be the worst thing as he has a chance to be seen with new eyes. The Hoosiers rebuilt their offensive line and returned coach Bob Bostad, but there are spots in the two-deep available and can be earned if Jones can show what he can do. On the flip side, IU is still a little thin on the defensive line and a return to his natural position could put another 300-pounder on the defensive line.
