Hoosier Coaches Make Last Minute Pitch to JUCO CB Marnez Ogletree

This evening JUCO Football Frenzy reported that Indiana Hoosiers’ cornerback coach Brandon Shelby will be visiting Fullerton Community College’s Marnez Olgetree on Friday. The 2-star recruit had originally pledged to play at Boise State until announcing on Monday that he was de-committing from the Broncos to give his other options a look.  

Olgetree most recently made a visit to the capital of Hoosier Nation on December 5, 2014 and currently holds offers from Indiana, Boise State, Fresno State, Georgia State, Hawaii, Middle Tennessee State, and recently added an offer from Utah State.

His commitment would be a welcome addition to the Hoosiers’ 2015 class as they saw the departure of starting cornerbacks Tim Bennett and Michael Hunter. Bennett had exhausted his eligibility with the Hoosiers while Hunter decided not to return for his fifth season. The Hoosiers return redshirt senior Kenny Mullen, redshirt sophomores Rashard Fant, Laray Smith, and Noel Padmore, and true sophomore Donovan Clark to the position. Fant and Clark currently appear to be the favorites to start at cornerback next fall. We will have more on this story as it develops.

UPDATE 1/21/15

Things became more serious today between the Hoosiers and junior college cornerback Marnez Ogletree, as head coach Kevin Wilson made an in-home visit with the athlete Wednesday afternoon. Wilson’s visit seems to indicate that adding a player to the defensive secondary is a priority for the Hoosiers as they finalize their 2015 class. With just two weeks left until national signing day and only four spots remaining, the Indiana coaching staff will have to balance between filling a positional need and taking the best athlete available.
