Numbers That Matter For Indiana vs. Maryland

The Indiana Hoosiers will host the Maryland Terrapins at 3:30pm on Saturday afternoon at Memorial Stadium in a virtual must-win game if the Hoosiers want to go bowling in 2016. Let’s take a look at some numbers that matter in the matchup against Maryland.
54-14- Getting off to a fast start has been a goal for the Hoosiers all season, but it has really shown through the last two weeks. Maryland, on the other hand, has been starting fast all season as they have outscored opponents 54-14 in the first quarter this season. Indiana will have to be the aggressor early or risk being blown away early.
6- Maryland has depth at running back as they have six rushers (2 QBs 4 RBs) with 100-plus yards on the ground. With the ability to run four quality rushers out on the field Maryland will likely always have a fresh set of legs running the ball. Indiana’s defense will have to match that with an outstanding effort from its starters and more production from the reserves when they are in the game.
66.4- Maryland quarterback Perry Hills has only thrown the ball 107 times in 2016, but he is efficient in completing 66.4 percent of his passes. He has thrown for 882 yards and eight scores and just two interceptions. Hills missed the game against Indiana a year ago with mono.
192.4- Maryland’s rush defense has given up 192.4 yards per game this season, including 290.3 in the last three games against Penn State, Minnesota, and Michigan State. Indiana should be able to regain some confidence running the ball this week if they can be a balanced attack.
3- Maryland’s offensive line has given up at least three sacks in four of their seven games this season, 20 total. While they run the ball well, if IU can force third and long they are prone to giving up hits on the quarterback.
3-1- The Hoosiers are 3-1 against Maryland all-time. They have split the last two meetings with Maryland winning in Bloomington 37-15 in 2014 and Indiana coming out victorious in College Park 47-28 last season.
