As the 2018 season hits the mid-way point, the Hoosiers have landed their 17th commitment for their 2019 recruiting class. On Tuesday evening Indiana received a verbal commitment from David Ellis, a three-star receiver, out of Chippewa Falls, MI. Ellis is being recruited to Indiana by running backs coach Mike Hart, which means he is likely being recruited as a running back.

Ellis is six-foot and 190 pounds and has been compared to a less slippery Reese Taylor. Indiana is currently the only Power Five school to offer Ellis, but in total he had six offers and was a one-time Central Michigan commit. Ellis was offered by the Hoosiers back in January and took a visit to Bloomington back in June.

If Ellis is being recruited as a running back, it would give the Hoosiers three in their 2019 class. Missouri running back Ivory Winters committed to the Hoosiers back in April and Sampson James earler this month. The Hoosiers have a stable of young running backs, but will lose Ricky Brookins and Mike Majette to graduation after the season. Indiana’s 2019 class is currently ranked 40th in the nation according to 247 Sports Composite rankings.
