The Indiana Hoosiers have had good success with players from the state of Ohio and they are hoping for more of the same from Cole Gest, a 3-star running back from Lakewood, Ohio that has officially signed his National Letter of Intent. Gest hails from powerhouse St. Edward’s and is the 124th best running back prospect in this class according to 247Sports. During the 2015 season, Gest ran the ball 270 times for 2097 yards and 25 touchdowns. He also caught 20 passes for 342 yards and three receiving touchdowns.

Upon his commitment, he told Hoosier Huddle that the coaching staff “treated me very well” and IU “just feels like home”. Hoosier Huddle staffer Nick Holmes watched Gest at an IU football camp during the past offseason and he was impressed with Gest’s quickness and ability to make adjustments on the fly. He mentioned that Gest displayed good hands and could be used in the slot or on screen passes out of the backfield and that Gest already has a “B1G physique”.

The 5’8” well-built running back chose Indiana over Bowling Green and Toledo and he’ll bolster a backfield that returns Devine Redding and Mike Majette, gets Camion Patrick off of redshirt and adds true freshman Tyler Natee. In addition, Andrew Wilson, Ricky Brookins and Alex Rodriguez all are slated to return. There appears to be enough depth and quality at the position to redshirt Gest if the coaching staff desired. However, if he proves to be good enough to help the team immediately, Kevin Wilson has shown that he will give true freshman the chance to contribute.
